Sonmit is more than just a search engine that gives back;
we want to create a platform where people can make a meaningful impact in the lives of others.
A few hours after being diagnosed with cancer, Chen Friedman had one big question in his mind: what would he have done if he had a few weeks to live? This led to a series of transformational ideas on how to help as many people as possible, as fast as possible. Starting with cancers.
In 2017, Chen found a way to give back to people affected by cancer through Sonmit, which its name was derived from the iconic & revolutionary clone, from the novel “Cloud Atlas” by David Mitchell, “Sonmi-451”.
With his background in technology and marketing, Chen developed a simple yet highly impactful business model: he developed a search engine that will allow users to donate to cancer charities by searching the web, in the same way they already do.
As with all startups, Sonmit’s journey hasn’t always been a smooth one, it still isn’t.
But with sheer determination and a philanthropic spirit, Chen got the company off the ground with more robust technology and a diverse team of professionals who are equally passionate about fighting cancer.
“When people’s lives depend on it, you’re just not allowed to give up,” Chen shares.
“More than just helping to find a cure for cancer, we also want to change the way people can help each other and make a difference.”
Today, Sonmit is continuously working on major developments in their platform to improve users’ search experience and to provide more channels for giving.
